With the onset of warm, spring weather in 2000, we met with Dick and Penny to put some miles on the motorhomes. This year, travel was erratic, to say the least. We met in Gillette, WY to go to the Newmar Kountry Klub Rally, and spent a week there at the CamPlex, the Fairgrounds outside of Gillette. With spaces for over 5,000 rigs, it was the perfect place to hold a rally of this size, and we all had a great time making new friends and getting together with old friends.
After the rally ended, we went on a "Round About," to Cody, WY and the Black Hills. The highlight of the trip was the carving of Chief Crazy Horse. This thing is huge, and has been under construction for 75 years, with about that many more years before it is completed. Talk about a family "carving a niche" for themselves. After spending some time in the Little Big Horn River area, we eased on down to Yellowstone National Park, and a date with Ole Faithful. We were lucky enough to get two sites close together for 7 nights in the Fishing Bridge Campground right in the middle of the park. This is one National Park that should be on everyone's "Must See" list.

Toto, I don't think we're in TENNESSEE anymore!

It's MY ROAD   ... You move over.

Devil's Tower , but we made no "Close Encounters."

These folks had too much time on their hands. An Antler Chair.

Old Faithful.

Water boiling, evidence of volcanic activity. Hot water next to cold water, and mineral  deposits are just some of the wonders to be seen in Yellowstone National Park.

Penny proved her worth as a traveling companion by researching areas for exploration.

At the Good Sam Samboree, the Oak Ridge Boys put on a great show for the Rally.

Western sunsets are always beautiful. This one preceded a storm that cut the show a little short.

The logs hold the roof on in the 100+ MPH winds that blow in the Rocky Mtn. Nat. Pk.

Our site in the campground in Vail, CO.

Same desert area, but a great western sunset.

2000 Travelog and Pictorial Review

Next, it was off to the Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Hole, WY. Both of these areas would be a destination worthy of many days exploration, but we gave them a few days for a once over, and promised to come back another day. At this time, Marie and I went back to Gillette for the Good Sam Club National Samboree, not often one can take in two such rallies in one month. I probably will not do it again .
We left Gillette headed for Salt Lake City, UT and spent a relaxing week seeing the sights in and around the city before heading towards California to see the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest when we received a phone call to go to Florida for an illness in the family. We arrived in Florida a week later and stayed the rest of the summer. Florida is NOT the place to stay all summer, but all ended well, and we contacted Dick and Penny to start planning the NEXT TIME!
